GTA IV Overhaul Mod

Short summary: Turn Liberty City into a crime empire. Deal drugs with a duffel bag, take over every neighbourhood, run a crew of bodyguards, pull heists, hire snipers and butchers, and survive police raids and traitors in your own gang. Everything is menu-driven on the numpad, with an in-game tutorial.

What is it?

GTA IV Overhaul is one big script mod (32 scripts in one DLL) for GTA IV Complete Edition 1.2.0.59. It adds a full criminal career on top of the normal game, without replacing story missions. Remove one file and the game is back to normal.

Features

Drugs and money

6 drugs, a duffel bag on your back, a drifting market with shortages and gluts, and prices per district.

Dealers stand in fixed spots (alleys, courtyards, near bars). You can buy, sell, bulk sell, or hold them up.

Dirty vs clean money: crime pays dirty, legal shops want clean. Launder at clubs or through a launderer NPC.

Drug couriers, dead drops, drug vans (steal one, deliver it to a quiet yard, walk away to get paid), big deals with other gangs (honest, rip-off or ambush).

Turf and crew

Every neighbourhood is its own turf. Fight the local gang, win it, upgrade it, put guards on it and choose which gang runs it.

Recruit bodyguards with levels, XP, roles (gunman, bruiser, medic, driver), weapon ladders, abilities, loyalty and injuries. They arrive by car, stay in your car, and follow you like the story’s bodyguards.

Send your crew on jobs: drop-offs, drug vans, bagman, distribution, turf attack and defence (up to 8 men).

Traitors, “Outsiders”, turf leaders (recruit or kill), trust and coups in rival turf.

Your gang (B menu)

Backup by car, a gang car, a Liberty-City taxi service, snipers on a target, ruthless butchers (bats, knives, Molotovs), and gang jobs like hits, informants and couriers. Drive-by teams use SMGs and drive off when the job is done.

Police

Witnesses call the cops, masks hide your identity, search areas on the map, stings, and SWAT/FBI raids on hot neighbourhoods.

Bribe the police chief at a meeting, bribe a judge, or silence informants and undercover agents.

Work

Tiered heists (street hold-ups, stores, armoured transport, rich men with bodyguards) with a contact who launders your cash.

Hitman contracts with kill-method bonuses and moving targets.

Chop shops and car export, street races, weapon dealer, safehouses and spare bags.

Quality of life

Nokia-style phone (F10) and BlackBerry-style crew and gang menus.

Outfit selector, balaclava and bag marking, weapon wheel, silencers with their own sounds.

In-game tutorial (F7), pager messages, a reputation screen (F5), and

GTA4Settings.ini

to change keys, prices and timers.

Back up your game folder.

Install the loader files (see

docs\1_WHAT_YOU_NEED.md

).

Copy

next to

GTAIV.exe

Start the game. A message says 32 scripts started. Press F7 for the tutorial.

Uninstall: delete

scripts\GTA4Overhaul.net.dll

Recommended

GTA IV RTX Remix + DLSS 5 by xoxor4d (NVIDIA RTX only): https://github.com/xoxor4d/gta4-rtx. It is not included but has been tested with this mod. Add it after you have confirmed the mod works.

Known issues

Tested on one setup. After 25+ minutes the game can run out of memory (the mod itself uses only a few MB); lower view distance, texture quality and traffic (F10).

The silencer model is optional and needs OpenIV (included guide).

Some situations (arrests during a heist, wrecked drug van) are not fully tested. Please report them with

GTA4Trace.log
